Blog Post #1: Beloit College Mindset List

First the list of things that describe me from the list.  I was born January 2nd, 1992.  I have forgotten how to write in cursive but knew at one time.  E-mail is becoming a pain to keep up with when you can use much quicker ways to communicate.  Clint Eastwood has defiantly turned into a director rather than an actor.  I use many ribbons to support different causes because I know a number of people going through cancer.  I love Korean cars.  I have actually used a corded phone and have played with the wire.  I have not experienced the luxury of having a nice car. Letterman is much better then Leno.  I see viewer discretion for pretty much every show I watch.  I never used an Apple II as a kid but I did use one at my school last year.  Second-hand smoke has actually started to deteriorate thanks to Iowa's no smoking policy.  I worked at an assisted living facility in high school.  I have had some bad experiences waiting for Domino's pizza delivery guy (didn't get it free either). Russian American space station?   Since when did a toothpaste tube not stand on its cap? I wanted to name my dog Beethoven.  What is Tab Clear? And since when did Wal-Mart not sell guns?  NOTHING is ever on t.v.  Congress is full of some people that need to re-attend College.  I love SYFY.

For the few things that don't apply to me.   I don't really get what the 3rd one is getting at. 4 5 6 7 8 and 9 for that matter.  I never watched Beavis and Butt-Head.  Doctor Death did have a license to practice when Al Pacino made a movie about him last year. I never collected beanie babies?  I have used many computers that didn't have a CD-ROM drive.  Who doesn't know how to spell potato?  I've never tried to divorce my parents? I've never heard of anyone getting married in space? Who doesn't still listen to Nirvana!

And that's all I got.

  1. I agree with you on many of these things. For instance I agree with email being slow and that there are faster ways to communicate. I also agree that people from our class knew how to write cursive at one time but don't know how to now. I also use many different colors of ribbons to support cancers.

  2. I have to say that I only actually agree with your comment about colored ribbons and spelling potato. I knew most of what they were talking about and either has never happened to me...or I just ignore the pointless truth. I still think e-mail is faster than some other forms of communication, but it is more professional than more recent means.

  3. I found conflict with several of these as well. I do not think this list gave us as much credit as our generation deserves. Most of us could reason what they meant.

  4. It seems like everybody is being critical of email. Well, would you want to send a paper letter? I didn't think so. Plus, I think that email is still a very effective method of communicating, but I will admit that texting is faster. However, I can't really disagree with the fact that there is rarely anything on TV.

  5. I agree with everything you said. This list did apply to alot in my lifetime, but it also kinda made us out to be stupid because we're most kids now-a-days are tech savvy. It's not our fault we want things done faster like texting rather than email, it's how the world is run

  6. I also agree with everything you said!!! Regarding the statement on the list talking about how we try to divorce our parents, is something I would have never put on the list. Who would want to tear up a family in that way anyways but I guess if it's meant to happen in some families I understand but that statement made our class look like we don't care about other's feelings.

  7. I agree with most of what you said. The few things that I disagree with is Clint Eastwood (I still always think of him as Dirty Harry) and email (texting is faster but you can reach more people through email). I completely agree with you on Nirvana, syfy, and congress.

  8. I have to say I greatly enjoyed reading this blog. It felt like more of a rant than a paper like some of the other ones (mine I'm sure was very paperish) but yours had a very distinct voice and I enjoyed it. I agree with a lot that you said, the phone wire and the ribbons for cancer sufferers and survivors. I like that about our year, support for victims of almost any kind are very strongly supported.

  9. OWEN! I agree exactly with your statement. People act like kid's today are way to wrapped up in technology. But the same people then don't realize that someday our generation and it's technology will be caring for them so they might as well let us have our way.
